Industrial Buildings.
Steel frame design for warehouses, factories
and large-span industrial structures.
Built for load.
Designed for decades.
Industrial buildings are defined by large spans, heavy process loads, crane systems and the need for structural flexibility as operations evolve. Getting the structural system right from the start is critical.
IGG provides complete structural engineering for steel-framed warehouses, manufacturing facilities, logistics hubs and mixed-use industrial buildings. We design primary and secondary steel frames, crane runway beams, mezzanine floors, cladding support systems and reinforced concrete elements — all coordinated into a single coherent structural model compliant with Eurocode.

Large spans. Heavy loads.
Complex interactions.
Portal Frame Behaviour
Steel portal frames are statically indeterminate structures where frame action, haunches and base fixity all interact. We model the full frame in 3D, optimise member sizes and haunch geometry, and verify stability under all load combinations per EC3.
Crane Runway Systems
Overhead crane systems introduce dynamic vertical and horizontal forces that govern runway beam, bracket and column design. We size runway beams for fatigue, design surge buffers and coordinate rail alignment tolerances with crane suppliers.
Foundation on Variable Ground
Industrial buildings often sit on brownfield sites with variable ground conditions. We design spread footings, ground beams and pile caps to resist column base reactions including significant horizontal thrust from portal frame action.
Serviceability & Deflection
Large-span steel frames are often governed by deflection limits rather than strength. We check eaves spread, vertical deflection and crane runway alignment to ensure cladding, doors and process equipment remain functional throughout the building's life.
Diaphragm & Bracing Design
Lateral stability of multi-bay industrial buildings relies on correctly designed roof diaphragms, vertical bracing bays and eaves struts. We size every element and detail the connections to transfer wind and seismic forces safely to the foundations.
Future Flexibility
Industrial clients often expand or repurpose facilities over time. We design structures with future loading in mind — identifying reserve capacity, marking knockout panels and documenting assumptions so future engineers can work safely with the structure.
What we design.
Warehouses & Logistics
Single and multi-bay steel portal frame warehouses, from small storage units to large distribution centres.
Manufacturing Facilities
Process-driven buildings with heavy floor loads, overhead cranes, mezzanine levels and equipment foundations.
Agricultural Buildings
Steel and mixed-material structures for grain storage, livestock housing and agricultural processing.
Mixed-Use Industrial
Combined warehouse, office and showroom facilities requiring coordinated structural and architectural integration.
